Staffing

The third function of management is staffing where the effort is related to putting people into various jobs. Staffing is a managerial function of recruiting right people for the right job.

Need and importance of staffing:-
·         Obtaining Competent Personnel: Proper staffing helps in discovering and obtaining competent personnel for various jobs.
·         High Performance: Proper staffing ensures higher performance by putting right person on the right job.
·         Continuous growth: Proper staffing ensures continuous survival and growth of the enterprise.
·         Optimum utilization of human resources: It prevents under-utilization of personnel and high labour cost and thus helps to reduce labour cost.
·         Improves job satisfaction: It improves job satisfaction and morale of employees
·         Key to improve the other functions as well.

Process of Staffing
1.       Estimating manpower requirement:- Under this various job position are created before hiring. Each job position requires different set of educational qualifications, calibre, interest and other specific norms. For this, a special workforce analysis is done to estimate the actual requirement of the manpower into the organisation. Workforce analysis provides the specific information regarding the current employment market and its changing trends to impact the future employment market.
2.       Recruitment:- It is a process of searching for a prospective candidate and stimulate them to apply for the job. It is done to create a pool of desirous candidates who has a potential for doing job in our org. It is positive step with regard to the no of candidate is concerned, means an org always want to get maximum no of applications from the desirous candidates.
3.       Selection:- It comes after the recruitment in which the best candidate is selected by conducting various tests. Selection is done to ensure that the organization chooses the best talent.
4.       Placement and orientation:- After selection the placement is done where the employee occupies the job position. After joining the firm the staff is given the brief description about the company and introduced to the co workers. This is called orientation where an employee is having a chance to familiarize with the job position and company.
5.       Training and development:-Training means equipping the employees with the required skills that are needed for performing the jobs of the organization. Development refers to the overall growth of the employee. It focuses on personal growth and successful employee development.
6.       Performance Appraisal:- It is concerned with the evaluation of employees performance on the basis of current or past performance. So performance appraisal includes defining job, appraising the performance and providing the feedback.
7.       Promotion and career planning:- Promotion is an important part anyone's career. It includes the career related issues to enhance the employee's pay, responsibility and job satisfation.
8.       Compensation:- It refers to all forms of payment made by an enterprises to their employees. E.g. salaries, wages, incentives, commission etc.
